Battery parks

Scroll verder
Battery parks are a natural extension of our renewable energy initiatives. Because the more sustainable energy we generate,
the greater the need for grid stability.

Batteries are key

The transition towards renewable energy has its challenges. Take for instance the highly variable in- and output of sustainable energy sources like the sun and wind. Also, new technologies like electric vehicles and fast-charging stations, lead to spikes in electricity demand. Battery parks offer a solution to these challenges. They allow us to store energy in times of overproduction and release it during moments of peak consumption.

As such, they are an indispensable part of the energy transition, by helping to keep the power supply flexible and stable.

Ambition and capacity

Storm is actively working on a first major large-scale battery project along the Kustlaan in Zeebrugge. Work is currently underway and the park is scheduled to be operational in 2025.

In the communities of Ruien and Langerlo, Storm is also planning two sizeable battery parks that were granted permits in 2022. These parks will be in use before the end of 2027.

With a combined storage capacity of no less than 1,600 MWh, the Storm battery parks play an essential role in facilitating the energy transition and in ensuring a future-proof power supply.
