Did you know that …
Agrisolar starts from the idea that solar parks can exist in harmony with nature and agriculture. The most appropriate application for our solar parks is chosen based on local conditions and in consultation with the agricultural farmer who remains the processor and/or owner of the land. Depending on the situation, this may mean combining solar panels with grassland, growing small crops, encouraging biodiversity, or a mix of these possibilities.
Biofuel is made from plants such as rapeseed or corn. These crops must first be grown, harvested and processed. Agrisolar solar farms convert sunlight directly into electricity, requiring much less space and time to produce renewable energy. Moreover, through dual land use, the land remains available for specific uses such as grassland, growing low crops or biodiversity and soil restoration, which is not the case with energy crops.
Solar and wind power together represent the most cost-effective way to generate electricity. They complement each other perfectly: while solar energy peaks on bright summer days, wind energy yields more especially in autumn and winter. Combining the two creates a more stable and reliable energy supply all year round.
An average family with solar panels has an installation of about 3.5 kWp. In comparison, 1 hectare of agrisolar - about 1.5 soccer fields - has a capacity of 1,000 kWp. So that is equivalent to about 285 homes with solar panels.
Thanks to the high efficiency of solar energy, only a small area of agricultural land is needed to significantly increase capacity. This allows us to choose locations carefully, taking into account the farmer's possible agricultural applications and harmonious integration into the landscape.
1 hectare of agrisolar - about 1.5 soccer fields - has a capacity of 1,000 kWp and generates about 1,000 MWh annually in Belgium. That's enough to power about 285 average families.
