The first turbine is up and ready to go!
The first wind turbine is up and ready to go on the site of the Storm wind farm on the ArcelorMittal premises. The turbines of this wind farm are - together with the Storm wind farm in Meer – the highest turbines in the country.
The turbines of this wind farm also break another record. They have blades of 61 metres and therefore a rotor diameter of as much as 122 metres. Only wind turbines that are built in the sea sometimes have an even greater rotor diameter.
This larger rotor diameter ensures that the wind turbines can catch the wind more efficiently, and produce considerably more energy.
The wind farm in the port of Ghent will be operational during the first half of 2017. It will produce enough green energy to meet the annual consumption of about 8,200 households.
