The new Storm wind farm in Zoersel was officially inaugurated last Sunday by Cathy Berx, Governor of the Province of Antwerp, and Liesbeth Verstreken, Mayor of Zoersel. They were assisted by several young participants of the Storm cooperative.

That same afternoon, half a hectare of forest was also planted in the vicinity of one of the two wind turbines. Natuurpunt organised the tree planting campaign. Volunteers from Natuurpunt were helped by dozens of Storm cooperative participants, employees and their families. The five hundred trees that were planted will, in turn, absorb another 12 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere every year.

Together, the two wind turbines will generate enough green power to meet the annual consumption of around 3,000 families, thus avoiding yearly emissions of 1,808,996 tonnes of CO2. The operation of the wind turbines has been tested over several weeks, and during the recent stormy period, they have already generated plenty of electricity.
