6 new wind turbines are under construction in the port of Ghent.
Storm is building six new wind turbines at the ArcelorMittal site in Ghent. In recent weeks, many of the supersized wind turbine components were delivered. And you can take 'supersized' literally in this case: three of these wind turbines are some of the biggest in Belgium! The blades are an impressive 81 metres long, and the mast is almost 160 metres high. Stand one of these wind turbine blades upright, and it measures 230 metres to the tip.
The gigantic components are transported by road or sea. As soon as they arrive on-site, construction of the turbines commences. Two new wind turbines have already appeared on the horizon, with the construction of the remaining four sets to follow over the next few weeks. The wind farm will be operational before the summer!
In total, the six wind turbines will generate enough renewable energy to supply electricity to nearly 25,000 households annually.
